Bishop, Elisha, served from Barclay Co. Virginia in the month
of March of the year 1779 as a substitute for his father Thomas Bishop (see
below), for a tour
of six month duration in the Company under the Command of Captain Thomas Catlett.
They first rendezvoused at Bonbrook in the state of New Jersey and the said
Pensioner was then attached to the regiment under the Command of Colonel
Phibecker [Colonel Christian Febiger], and also under the Command of General
Woodford. They were then stationed at Smiths Cove on the Hudson River and they
were at that place during battle of Stoney Point. After that expedition he
served in a tour and Volunteered as a Substitute under the Command of the same
Officers for a tour of nine months duration about the month of September of the
year 1779. The said Pensioner was then detached with the regiment under the
Command of Colonel Lee against Bowles [Paulus] Hook at Hackensack in the state
of New Jersey to serve under the Command of Captain Catlett. After this tour of
service he was Honorably discharged and there upon returned to his home. Pension
# S 30867.
